The Effect of Adolescent¡¯s Traumatic Experience, Perfectionism and Negative Automatic Thoughts on Social Anxiety

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of adolescent¡¯s Traumatic Experience, Perfectionism and Negative Automatic Thoughts on Social Anxiety. The total of 530 adolescents were given self report measures of anxiety in interpersonal and performance situations, traumatic experience in social situations, MPS and K-CATS. The statistic analysis program(SPSS) was used for analyzing the obtained data from the research in correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and path analysis. The results were as follows: First, interpersonal and performance anxiety were significant positive correlations with traumatic experience and negative automatic thoughts. But these showed significant negative correlation with perfectionism. Second, traumatic experience and socially-oriented perfectionism had an effect on social anxiety directly, and these could influence social anxiety mediating of negative automatic thoughts. It was developed interpersonal anxiety by negative automatic thoughts in case of undergoing traumatic experience. So it is confirmed the importance of negative automatic thoughts and socially-oriented perfectionism in adolescent¡¯s social anxiety.
